Jaimie Cahlil – art background 

Accepted for art school on the strength of my drawings at the age of 17, I received a thorough traditional training in the early 1970’s at the Ruskin School of Drawing & Fine Art, Oxford. This training included drawing from sculpture in the Ashmolean Museum, still life studies, plus drawing and painting from the (live) human figure… together with study of human anatomy, and art history – and privileged access to drawings in the museum’s collection, by which I mean we were (amazingly) allowed to hold in our hands actual drawing by great artists: Leonardo Da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo…

Within a year of graduating (age 20), my paintings of atmospheric landscapes gained favourable reviews, while my portraits (soulful pencil drawings, pastels, oil paintings) were accepted for inclusion in the Royal Society of Portrait Painters annual exhibition in London.  

In later years, influenced by meditation and personal spiritual experience, I brought my increasing awareness and creative sensitivity to my workshops and courses in creative self-expression and inner journeying.

More about what art tuition offers you – and the process

As a professional painter of what I call ‘Soulful Art’, I offer intuition-based art tuition for *those who wish to focus on developing creative techniques in painting/drawing and the deepening of soulful/spiritual inspiration. (*Primarily with adults in mind, although the sensitive child does respond well and benefits from such an approach as this.)

So, in addition to technical guidance, you will be encouraged to relax, focus, explore, and fully engage with your own process - as a means of contemplation, awareness + reflection… towards profound self-psychotherapy and soulful transformation.

It is useful to bear in mind that self-expression is happening just as much in the pauses between making marks on the piece of paper as in the actual act of making those marks, and in the feelings and effects of the resulting piece of work.

The gift contained within a self-created image is that it provides a way to view your deepest being. The picture voices a story beyond words. Images form in the mind long before language is established. Working on the self through imagery reveals what lies beneath what is initially presented - enabling understanding of feelings, beliefs, life situation and choices.

Through the creative process, (and guided by visualisation plus relaxation techniques, where appropriate), I encourage exploration of night- and day-dreams, deepest longings and fears, beliefs, feelings and emotions.  

I offer these sessions primarily for individuals – though occasionally hold small groups, too. And although I have basic materials available to try out, these are primarily for the use of my psychotherapy and workshop clients. These are weekly or fortnightly sessions include opportunity to reflect on/verbalise whatever may emerge.

What you will bring to your sessions

In these sessions, you will bring with you your own chosen art materials – and whatever picture/s you are working on and/or preparing to work on. (Young children may use basic art materials supplied)

 If you feel unsure as to what to bring with you, this will be discussed and explored (with sample materials) in your initial session.

ART TUITION: these sessions, with opportunity for shared observation, reflection and deepening, normally last 75-100 minutes (negotiable) - based on the requirements of the individual.
